The artist has given the entirety of his £25k Mercury Prize cash to the MVT, which operates to save the United Kingdom's small concert spaces.

He was given the cheque on October 16 as his new release his work was chosen as the best record of the past year.

The musician has decided to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the essential function small stages had in his early career.

"As an artist would not have achieved this success if it wasn't for all the shows I did around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," said the artist. "These venues are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately 16% of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, well-known musicians such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by adding a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports local stages.

He also joined in, raising over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to assist thirty-eight small stages across Britain.

The money assisted venues that were dealing with imminent closure due to challenges stemming from flooding, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and sound issues.

Other venues were granted monetary aid in improving amenities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted artists and audiences.

"The notion that money from performances in major spaces helps the smaller venues, where it begins for musicians like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has stated.

Fender is among several artists to donate his honor winnings to good deeds.

When the band earned the award in the year 1996 for their release their work, vocalist Cocker declared that the act would donate their cash to the charity War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer the artist shared her bounty between several organizations, including the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also gave a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they needed updated gear," the artist shared with outlets.

In recent years, they gave their winnings to the local youth club that developed their act, in addition to other independent music bodies.

And winners that year M People contributed their prize to a charity for MS after a friend was found to have the disease.

"The victory was sufficient," remarked vocalist the singer. "The money was the extra but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the cake. So our success touched somebody else's life."

Recently, the MVT shared it had protected several local spots in the South East, by bringing them into local control.

One venue in Southampton and the other in Bristol were purchased under the public acquisition program, which is funded by the arts council and supporters who acquire "stakes" in the venues.
