Authorities reported they were alerted by a man who discovered a car in Hanau marked with reddish liquid

Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Police then located many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.

Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for information.

A high-ranking political figure stated the incident left him speechless and had to be solved promptly.

"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
